But why did it all start?

Founded in 2021, the company built on our CEO’s personal experience of using creative writing to navigate a particularly challenging time in his life. His experience was similar to many who have moments when their mental health is poor. Negative thoughts and feelings became overwhelming and with that, the objectivity to be able to rationalise a way forward obscured.

Having written novels before, he believed that using the structured ‘arc’ of story-telling, he would be better placed to order the thoughts and feelings that were jumbled up in his head. The output was threefold.

He had reached a point where through increased self-awareness of himself and the circumstances he had experienced, he had gained sufficient perspective to accept all that had occurred; allowing him to begin looking forward and leave the past behind.
He had created a coherent narrative, that he could use to better communicate to his friends and family the journey he had been on, enabling them an opportunity to understand and consider how they could better support is future.
He had scripted a unique experiential story, that could allow others to understand how poor mental health can affect an individual. This autobiographical narrative could yield two benefits: the ability to help others struggling to feel less isolated and alone in their journey; and for those unaffected to understand in a more granular way what it feels like to struggle with mental health, thereby enabling them to better support others.

It is these three value propositions, that through Re-Engage and Perspectives, we aim to enable and help others to adopt and create great communities where all individuals are supported and valued.

REP Group believes that Shakespeare's statement is as true today as it was 1603, and as social media expands to create an ever more accessible stage, everyday its relevance increases. However, while social media may afford us a glimpse or a teaser trailer as it were into each other’s lives, the real stories beneath are frequently more complex, intricate and hidden.

As was the case for our CEO, through storytelling and REP, we enable individuals who are struggling with their mental wellbeing to better understand their story and in so doing, provide a pathway for greater self-awareness. Then if they want, and where we believe the story is compelling with universal relevance, we will work compassionately with them to publish their story either under their own name or pseudonym if that is what they would prefer. We don’t advocate publication to glorify trauma, we do it to engage with the wider society and lend them fresh perspective to what is a global pandemic. These stories our produced and distributed by our independent publishing arm, ‘Perspectives Books’.
